Christmas Craft Fair
The Nelson Congregational Church will host its first annual Christmas Craft fair on Saturday, December 6th at 830 Nelson Road, Nelson in the ADA accessible basement of the church. Entrance to the stairs and lift leading to the basement is to the rear of the building.
The event opens on Saturday from 10am to 3pm featuring locally made gifts. The public is invited to enjoy more than a dozen artisans showcasing handcrafted goods, including customized watches and clocks, glass art, paper and botanic arts, glass art, skin essentials, jewelry, local honey and items made with beeswax, gifts from the garden, holiday décor, shelf sitters, wreaths, candles, sourdough bread, herbal products, holiday bouquets and olive oil from a locally owned Italian olive grove.
The local Scout troop will be providing homemade muffins, cookies, brownies, etc. as well as mulled cider, hot chocolate and coffee as a troop fundraiser.
Vendors fees are added to the church holiday collection that will go towards a charitable organization, please support our vendors.
Souper Saturday Lunch - Free!
Yes, there is such a thing as a free lunch! The community is invited to stop by for a bowl of warm homemade soup, bread, and Valentine’s desserts on Saturday, Feb. 8, starting at noon in the church fellowship hall - use the side entrance.
This event is free and open to all - the soups will be hot at noon and the lunch goes on until all the food is gone. Bring your neighbors and pull up a chair.
Hanging of the Greens and Tree Lighting
Join in decorating the sanctuary in preparation for the season of Advent. The Nelson Town Band will be playing carols while we decorate and there will be cake and cider available following the decorating. At 5 pm, after refreshments, we will gather around the Christmas tree and sing a few carols and light the Christmas Tree. Please feel free to drop in at any time.
Veteran’s Day Pie and Coffee
This has become an annual event! Help celebrate the spirit of community in Nelson, and honor veterans, volunteers, and community helpers on (almost) Veterans Day. Enjoy a piece of homemade pie, a cup of coffee or cider, and some lively conversation. Please join us in the spirit of community. Bring your neighbors!

First Tuesday Tea
All are welcome each month to the First Tuesday Tea. This casual social event moves from house to house around Nelson and Harrisville. The host provides tea and coffee, and people can bring a little something to share. Come for friendly conversation and good company. Please come even if you don’t have time to make a treat to share.

There will be ice cream sundaes for $5 including ice cream, homemade chocolate and butterscotch sauces, fresh fruit, an assortment of toppings, and whipped cream. Teenies, $1. 10th Annual Artisan’s Craft Fair
This is such a fun day. Happy customers and happy vendors. Plenty of time and space to chat with neighbors and friends. Don’t miss the strawberry shortcake at the food booth!

Maypole Dance and Cake Walk
Don’t miss this wonderful welcome to spring event. The festivities will begin at 11-ish. The Morris Dancers will perform, you can join in the Maypole Dance and could even win a cake! Always fun and lots of yummy cakes to win while wrapping the ribbons around the pole. Great time for young and old.
Nelson Coffeehouse
Nelson in Common hosts the Nelson Coffeehouse in partnership with the church. Singers, poets, instrumentalists, storytellers and listeners are encouraged to attend. If you would like to contribute, baked goods and other seasonal treats are most welcome. If you’d like to perform, arrive a few minutes early and sign the time slot sheet. We are thrilled to hold this space once again and look forward to seeing you soon.
The coffeehouse is in the church fellowship hall. Enter using the back stairs or use the lift.
Easter Service and Egg Hunt
Celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, which occurred on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary c. 30 AD. Please stay for coffee and snacks afterwards. This service will be on Zoom as well using the regular link.
Following worship, we will have an Easter egg hunt for church and community children, 11 years old and younger. The hunt will start at 10:45 am. All are welcome!
Easter Sunrise Service
An outdoor sunrise service on the church lawn on Easter morning at 7:00 am. Please dress for the weather and help celebrate this holy day!
The deacons will provide a hearty coffee hour for those hardy souls who plan to attend both the sunrise and the 9:30 am service.
Good Friday
The Church will be open for reflection and prayer. Please feel free to come at any time between 4 and 6 pm and sit in the sanctuary.
Maundy Thursday Service
A special and solemn service commemorating the Washing of the Feet and Last Supper of Jesus with the Apostles. This is an evening service with communion and Tenebrae (Gospel readings from the last hours of the life of Jesus). This service will be in-person only. The service will last about half an hour and end in silence with lights dimmed.
Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week and commemorates Jesus Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Cheesecake Party
Free to all and a delicious way to get together! Come and enjoy delectable varieties of cheescake and toppings along with coffee and tea. Don’t miss this event - it’s free and definitely fun!
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Easter season and the beginning of Lent. We invite you to join us as we embrace the Lenten season. We welcome this meaningful opportunity for personal growth, and drawing closer to our faith as a community. Come be a part of this journey with us as we reflect, pray, and prepare for the joyous celebration of Easter. We look forward to having you at our service which we are sharing with members of the Chapel-by-the-Lake.
